ABOUT

Exploring Creativity is a class designed to help students tap into their creative potential within their own area of strength, but also explore other creative fields with which they may have received little to no previous exposure.

MR. SAYRE

Mr. Sayre has created and implemented innovative programs in the arts and education for decades including: Broadway Beginnings (the first High School Musical Theater Development Program in the country), Young Playwrights' Festivals, collaboration with Disney Theatricals for pilot productions of Tarzan and Mary Poppins, and a student-led Children’s Theater Workshop among many others. He has written children's books, screenplays and plays (several of which his students have performed). Additionally, Clark taught fifth grade for seven years at El Rancho Elementary School in Goleta as well as GATE summer school at Foothill School. He taught theater at Goleta Valley Junior High School for four years where he created the Performing Arts Class and the Lunchbox Series (school-wide lunchtime performances, lectures and events). He is currently the theater teacher at DP.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

Reaching Your Creative Potential: The Sky's The Limit When Students Choose Their Own Final Projects

After weeks of experimenting in a variety of  creative disciplines and learning from experts in those areas, students learn how to write "ask letters" to a favorite creative professional who will encourage and offer guidance in a particular field.  Students choose a final project they will share with the public, often collaborating with peers from different artistic specialties.  Students share project proposals with a panel of experts who help students reach their highest creative potential.  See each students' page to see the huge variety of collaborative and original projects we're presenting
